FXS: Gold climbs nearly 3 pct as investors seek safety
LONDON, Oct 6 (Reuters) - Gold prices rose almost 3 percent on Monday as investors sought safety in the precious metal as equity markets tumbled across the board.
European shares were down nearly 6 percent in late morning trade in London.
Spot gold climbed to $854.50/856.50 an ounce at 1040 GMT, up from $834.80 an ounce late in New York on Friday. Earlier it touched a session high of $859.10.
