MW: U.S. stock indexes start lower after global rate cuts

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) - U.S. stock indexes opened lower on Wednesday after the Federal Reserve axed interest rates in a synchronized move with other central banks around the world in another effort to stem the panic freezing the credit markets. After falling more than 200 points at the start, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 98.05 points to 9,339.06. The S&P 500 dropped 12.45 points to 983.78. The Nasdaq Composite shed 20.77 points to 1,734.11.
