AP: Gas Prices Down 30 Cents In One Day

Lake Countians got some relief at the pump in a big way Sunday when prices at two Tiptonville convenience stores fell 30˘ in one day.

Regular gasoline at the Maverick store in Tiptonville fell from $3.18.9 for regular to $2.88. They fell a like amount at the BP store across the street from $3.19.9 to $2.89.

Greg Chandler, manager for the Maverick store, said it was the biggest one day drop since he has worked there.

And for one day at least, gasoline was cheaper in Tiptonville than in Dyersburg. On Monday morning, regular gas on Lake Road in Dyersburg was selling for $2.89 across the board.

With prices hovering at or above $4 a gallon for much of the summer, any price with a 2 in front of it looked good. “I didn’t know if I would ever see gas under $3 a gallon again,” added Chandler.

Crude oil was up over $3 a barrel Monday, ending a steady decline that lasted more than a week as the national and global economy meltdown has continued. Stocks were up sharply Monday.
