BUXTON guest house Hilbre won silver in the Sustainable Tourism awards.
The guest house on White Knowle Road was praised for involving visitors in environmentally friendly practices, such as recycling their own rubbish, and involving the wider community.
Owner Philippa Bowen organises bulk-buying for her own and other businesses from eco-friendly producers.
She was pleased that a guest house in a town – rather than one in the countryside which could grow its own produce – had been recognised for demonstrating that everyone can make a difference.
"When it comes to the environment, we've all got to do our bit," said Philippa.
