New York-- Crude oil prices dropped Thursday to nearly $73 a barrel, a figure less than half the peak of $147.27 in July, in trading at the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Crude oil prices fell $1.34 to $73.20 per barrel. Heating oil prices fell 0.031 cents to $2.1595 per gallon. Reformulated blendstock gasoline fell 0.0522 cents to $1.3 per gallon. Natural gas prices dropped 0.008 cents to $6.60 per million British thermal units.
At the pump, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $3.084 Thursday, down from Wednesday's $3.125 a gallon, AAA said. The average price of gasoline in the U.S. has fallen more than a dollar from its July record of $4.114 per gallon.
