RTTN: US dollar pares 6-year high versus South African rand
(RTTNews) - After hitting a 6-year high of 10.8740 by about 1:55 am ET, the US currency reversed its direction against the South African rand during European deals on Thursday. At 5:15 am ET, the pair dropped to 9.7925 from yesterday's close of 10.6546. Thereafter, the dollar-rand pair showed slight uptrend, as of now worth 10.33.
Thursday, the Statistics South Africa said the nation's wholesale trade increased 1.4% year-on-year in August at constant prices, much slower than 6.6% growth recorded in July and 5.2% rise seen during the previous year.
On a monthly basis, wholesale trade dropped 3% at constant prices and decreased 2.5% at current prices.
The Statistics South Africa also announced that the motor trade sales increased 0.7% year-over-year in August, much slower than the 8.8% rise recorded in July. A year ago, motor trade sales had grown 7.4%.
On a monthly basis, the motor trade sales decreased 4.2% in August.
