MW: Bond insurers may ask Treasury to buy risky assets: report

LONDON (MarketWatch) -- Bond insurers including Ambac Financial Group Inc. are working on a plan to send to the the U.S. Treasury Department that would allow the firms to sell certain risky assets to the government, according to a Bloomberg report late Thursday. The report, which cited Ambac CEO Michael Callen, said the firms could put forward a proposal in the coming week that allow them to guarantee some assets with government backing. Callen said he won't be asking the government to take a stake in Ambac, the report added.
