Residents are zipping on down to fill up on the lower gas prices, as they continue to drop. Prices at ZIP on Lake Havasu Avenue and Mesquite Boulevard dropped to $2.97 Monday. Late last week gas was $3.19 a gallon at ZIP, while other stations were posting prices at $3.21 a gallon and higher. The national average gas price Monday was $2.92, according to AAA.
The falling gas prices partly are a result of the dramatic turnaround in crude oil prices, which plunged below $70 a barrel last week from a record high of $147. 27 July 11. Oil settled at $74.25 a barrel Monday.
