NEW YORK, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Crude oil prices slid Wednesday to less than $70 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange as the dollar gained strength against the euro and British pound.
Bank of England Gov. Mervyn King warned the British economy was "likely" entering a recession, pushing the pound to a five-year low of $1.6394, The Times of London reported. The euro fell to $1.2743.
Crude oil prices fell $2.62 overnight to $69.56 per barrel. Heating oil prices fell 0.578 cents to $21193 per gallon. Reformulated blendstock gasoline fell 0.0594 cents to $1.6325 per gallon. Natural gas prices were rose 0.067 cents to $6.911 per million British thermal units.
At the pump, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $2.858 Wednesday, down from Tuesday's $3.889 a gallon, AAA said.
