STOCKS ----------------------- The 30-share BSE index ended down 3.92 percent at 9,771.70 points and the 50-share NSE index closed down 3.98 percent at 2,943.15 points, caught in fears global recession would hit corporate earnings and investments in emerging markets. GOVERNMENT BONDS ---------------------------------------------- The 2018 bond yield at 7.56 percent, from the previous close of 7.60 percent, on softer inflation data, which raised hopes of a repo rate cut in the central bank's policy review on Friday. RUPEE -------------- The rupee at 49.79/80 per dollar, after hitting record low of 49.86, on losses in the local stock markets, but heavy central bank intervention held rupee in a tight range. It had closed at 49.28/29 per dollar on Wednesday. INTEREST RATE SWAPS INROIS ---------------------------- The benchmark five-year interest rate swap at 6.68/6.78 percent. CALL MONEY -------------------- Call money rate at 6.10/6.20 percent, unchanged from previous close, after the cut in banks' cash reserve ratio earlier this month released 1 trillion rupees into the system, leaving banks with ample cash. GOLD <0#MAU:> ------------- The December contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India at 11,700 rupees, down 184 rupees from the previous close.
