NEW YORK, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Crude oil prices rose to $68.12 a barrel early Thursday on the New York Mercantile Exchange, although prices are still marking a downward trend overall.
Falling stock markets and a strong dollar are undermining the price of oil, which has fallen more than 50 percent from its high of more than $147 per barrel in July.
Crude oil prices gained $1.37 to $68.12 per barrel Thursday. Heating oil prices rose 0.0402 cents to $2.0767 per gallon. Reformulated blendstock gasoline rose 0.0156 cents to $1.5865 per gallon. Natural gas prices dropped slightly, down 0.076 cents to $6.701 per million British thermal units.
At the pump, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $2.822 Thursday, down from Wednesday's $2.858 a gallon, AAA said.
