RTRS: FOREX-Euro rises to session high vs dollar on stocks
NEW YORK, Oct 23 (Reuters) - The euro rebounded versus the dollar on Thursday as U.S. stocks extended gains on bargain hunting in the energy sector, prompting some profit-taking against the greenback.
The euro rose to session highs at $1.2888 . It last traded up 0.2 percent at $1.2878 , pushing away from session troughs around $1.2730 touched in early trade.
Against the yen, the euro was last up 0.2 percent at 125.72 yen .
"It feels as though a lot of dollar profit-taking is coming through," said a trader from Forex.com in Bedminster, New Jersey. "This could have some room to run as we head into the last hours of European trading. Stocks have popped and this is seeing yen crosses such as euro/yen recover."
The Dow Jones industrial average .DJI pushed up 74.23 points, or 0.87 percent, to 8,593.44. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index .SPX climbed 6.46 points, or 0.72 percent, to 903.24.
