THE US dollar was higher against most other currencies in European trading yesterday as the gold price fell. The euro traded at US1.2847, down from US1.2866 on Wednesday in New York. Other dollar rates: 97.93 Japanese yen, down from 97.97; 1.1640 Swiss franc, up from 1.1599; 1.2592 Canadian dollar, up from 1.2521. The British pound was quoted at US1.6252, down from US1.6337.
