AP: Gas prices continue to fall

New Haven (WTNH) -- In these tough economic times the one bright spot remains gas prices. In the last two weeks gas prices have dropped more than 50-cents a gallon.

According to AAA the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in Connecticut is $2.74, a little above the national average of $2.66.

One month ago Connecticut's gas price was $3.70.

The decline some say is unprecedented. Lower prices are a direct result of the crash in the price of crude oil and falling demand for gas here in the United States.

It's unclear whether the prices will go down further or plateau. Some say if prices do slide more it will be at a slower pace. It depends on the economy and the balance of supply & demand.

Last week, OPEC, the group that controls exports to the world, agreed to cut production.

The cost of diesel fuel is falling as well. Today it's at about $3.72 a gallon, down from $4.34 a month ago, and well below it's peak of $5.05 set back in July.
