AP: Price planning for milestone boost

WESTWAY'S Danny Price is planning on bringing up the half-century in style next month.
Price, 23, will kick off his European Amateur Championships adventure on November 5 by making his 50th international appearance - his 90th fight in total.

And the heavyweight is in confident mood going into the Liverpool-based tournament after booking a gold and the boxer of the tournament award at the Tammer event in Finland last weekend.

He said: “The first round fight will be my 50th international, which is a bit of a milestone for me. I am obviously hoping to mark it with a win and move on through the competition.

“I am feeling good at the moment and the gold medal in Finland was a massive confidence booster for me.

“The support I had over there, both on the internet and from phonecalls was tremendous. It would be great if I could get something similar when I come back to fight in this country.

“The sponsorship from both Eden Gym and Mark Dalzell of CJM Building contractors has also been a great help to me. I would also like to say thank you to my coach RaySimpson.”

Price, who sets off for a training camp in Sheffield next week, has now turned his focus fully to boxing, forcing him to call time on his footballing exploits in the Scarborough Saturday and Sunday Leagues.

He explained: “I have played football locally since the under-11 age-group, but I have to be sensible. If you pick up an injury then it could seriously hamper my boxing career.

“It can affect training and all sorts, so I have decided to pack it all in.”
