AP: Dollar mostly lower, gold rises in Europe
 
The U.S. dollar was mostly down against most other major currencies in European trading Tuesday. Gold rose.

The euro traded at $1.2992, up from $1.2627 late Monday in New York. Later, in midday trading in New York on Tuesday, the euro fetched $1.3018.

Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Monday, included 100.27 Japanese yen, up from 98.98; 1.1613 Swiss francs, down from 1.1741; and 1.1544 Canadian dollars, down from 1.1855.

The British pound was quoted at $1.6068, up from $1.5821.

Later, in midday trading in New York, the dollar bought 100.45 yen and 1.1625 francs, while the pound was worth $1.6084.

Gold traded in London at $741.25 per troy ounce, up from $729.50 late Monday.
