BLBG: Platinum Advances in London After Anglo Platinum Shuts Smelter
By Nicholas Larkin
Nov. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Platinum rose in London after Anglo Platinum Ltd., the world's biggest producer of the metal, shut its smelter in Polokwane, South Africa.
Platinum for immediate delivery climbed $24, or 2.8 percent, to $875.50 an ounce as of 12:15 p.m. London time.
Anglo Platinum spokesman Simon Tebele declined to say why the smelter had been shut. A fire caused some damage at the plant, Reint Dykema, a spokesman for the Solidarity labor union, said earlier after speaking with colleagues at the plant. No one was hurt, he said.
