RTRS: Gold steadies after 1.6 pct fall in New York

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Gold regained some footing on Wednesday, having fallen more than 1 percent in New York, as the dollar steadied against the euro but weakness in equities and oil could still weigh on the market.

-- Gold was trading at $731.10 an ounce, up $0.35 an ounce from New York's notional close on Tuesday, when a firmer dollar and worries about a global recession sparked selling from speculators.

-- The euro was steady at $1.2539, while the Nikkei shed 1.3 percent on Wednesday on worries about the health of the global economy.

-- Oil shed $0.71 to $58.62 a barrel after falling 5 percent the previous session.

-- Platinum was trading at $809.00 ounce, down $3.50 from New York's notional close on Tuesday.

-- New York gold futures fell $0.9 an ounce to $731.8.
