The Sensex pared some of its losses and is trading off from day`s low. Realty, banking and metal stocks led the declines.
BSE Midcap and Smallcap index sheds over 2% each.
Indian stock market started the day on a positive note after a fall of 1.58% on the previous working day. The 30-share index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 11.51 points, at 9,396.93 on Monday.
Overall market breadth is negative. Out of the total 2,508 stocks traded at BSE, 636 advanced, 1,809 declined while 63 remained unchanged.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Wipro (4.28%), ACC (3.44%), Maruti Suzuki India (1.81%), Tata Motors (1.79%), Bharti Airtel (1.67%), and NTPC (1.57%).
On the other hand, HDFC Bank (6.76%), Reliance Energy (6.59%), DLF (4.55%), Mahindra & Mahindra (4.45%), Tata Steel (4.07%), and Housing Development Finance Corporation (4.04%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
