MW: Oil futures fall ahead of data on petroleum supplies

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Oil futures fell early Wednesday, as traders awaited the latest data on U.S. petroleum supplies due later in the session. Crude for December delivery, which expires at the end of trading on Thursday, dropped 49 cents to $53.90 a barrel in electronic trading on Globex. January crude fell 38 cents to $54.39 a barrel.
