RTRS: Dollar extends losses vs yen as jobless claims rise
NEW YORK, Nov 20 (Reuters) - The U.S. dollar extended losses against the yen on Thursday after data showed the number of Americans filing for jobless benefits rose last week, adding to worries about a deepening U.S. recession.
First-time jobless claims rose to 542,000 in the week ending Nov. 15, above economists forecasts for a more modest increase.
The dollar slipped to 95.30 yen from about 95.50 yen before the data. It was down about 0.6 percent on the day. (Reporting by Steven C. Johnson; Editing by Theodore d'Afflisio)
