The Dow Jones industrial average .DJI was down 39.90 points, or 0.50 percent, at 7,957.38. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index .SPX was down 6.04 points, or 0.75 percent, at 800.54. The Nasdaq Composite Index .IXIC was down 5.84 points, or 0.42 percent, at 1,380.58.
