Area jewelers say gold is again a viable gift choice since its price had fallen to about $730 an ounce early last week from a high of $1,000 an ounce in March.
“Yellow gold seems to again be a popular trend in ladies’ necklaces and fashion jewelry after several years of requests for white gold,” said Bob Mason, owner of Rone Regency Jewelers.
Randy Williams, chief operations officer with Markman’s Diamonds and Fine Jewelry, said one of the most popular items developing for Christmas giving is colored gemstones.
“Big this year: blue topaz and citrine. We’ve increased our color program a lot, and it seems like we haven’t hit a saturation point on the market yet,” Mr. Williams said.
