MW: Dillard's loss widens to 76 cents a share vs 15-cent loss

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Dillard's Inc. said Wednesday that it lost $56 million, or 76 cents a share, compared to a loss of $11 million, or 15 cents a share, in the same period a year ago. Net sales were $1.51 billion compared to $1.63 billion. Analysts polled by FactSet Research estimated, on average, a loss per share of 49 cents and sales of $1.54 billion. Capital expenditures in 2009 are expected to be approximately $120 million compared to approximately $192 million in 2008 as fewer stores are opened. Dillard's shares rose 25% Tuesday to $3.75.
