MW: European shares slide again, Tesco bucks lower trend

LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European shares fell again on Tuesday, with mineral extractors taking another battering. Shares in Xstrata fell 8.2%. Banks were also under pressure, with HSBC Holdings down 2.1%. Still, supermarket group Tesco managed to rise 5.6% after reporting sales that just exceeded analyst estimates. The U.K. FTSE 100 index fell 1.4% to 4,010.48, the German DAX 30 index declined 1.4% to 4,331.01 and the French CAC-40 index lost 1.3% to 3,040.34.
