The Sensex continues to trade in the positive but on a flat note. Realty, consumer goods and banking stocks rose, while consumer durables and metal stocks declined.
BSE Midcap and Smallcap index rose 0.65% and 0.61% respectively.
Indian stock market opened the day on a positive zone after a rise of 0.09% on the previous working day. The 30-share index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 31.59 points, at 8,779.02 on Thursday.
In the previous day session, the Sensex settled with a gain of 8.19 points, or 0.09%, while the NSE Nifty declined by 1.35 points, or 0.05%.
Currently, the 30-share index Sensex is trading up 25.91 points, or 0.30%, at 8,773.34, after touching a high of 8,816.93 and a low of 8,726.71. Meanwhile the broad based Nifty is trading higher by 2.60 points, or 0.10%, at 2,659.05, after hitting a high of 2,675.00 and a low of 2,646.35. (10.49 a.m.).
Overall market breadth is positive. Out of the total 1,355 stocks traded at BSE, 843 advanced, 460 declined while 52 remained unchanged.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Larsen & Toubro (1.88%), State Bank Of India (1.76%), Jaiprakash Associates (1.60%), Tata Motors (1.35%), DLF (1.25%), and ACC (1.07%).
On the other hand, Hindalco Industries (4.12%), Maruti Suzuki India (2.93%), Sterlite Industries (India) (1.88%), Tata Steel (1.49%), Reliance Industries (1.27%), and Bharti Airtel (0.58%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
