The Sensex has firmed up and is now up 455 points at 9,420. Earlier in the dayt, the index opened with a significant positive gap of 312 points at 9,277 following the double bonanza - RBI cutting rates and the government announcing a stimulus package - over the weekend.
Tata Steel has soared 8.7% to Rs 199, and DLF has surged 8.3% to Rs 220.
Reliance Communications, Reliance Infrastructure and Grasim have rallied 7.7% each to Rs 213, Rs 573 and Rs 1,011, respectively.
Wipro, Bharti Airtel and HDFC have moved up 7% each to Rs 243, Rs 713 and Rs 1,538, respectively.
Jaiprakash Associates has advanced 6.7% to Rs 71. HDFC Bank, Tata Power and ICICI Bank have added 6.3% each to Rs 945, Rs 711 and Rs 381, respectively.
Sterlite has gained nearly 6% at Rs 259. NTPC and SBI are up over 5% each at Rs 170 and Rs 1,193, respectively.
The market breadth is fairly positive - out of 2,317 stocks traded so far, 1,487 have advanced, 757 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
