Mumbai, Dec 12 : Retreating from one-month high, the rupee slid by 20 paise at 48.55 against US dollar in the opening session today, against the previous close of 48.35, on sustained buying of dollars by banks and others.
Later, the local unit oscillated in a wide range between 48.38 and 48.96 dollar in intra-day trade.
''Rupee retreated from one-month high in opening trade today, as fall in Asian and local shares raised concerns of more capital outflows from the domestic equity market,'' a leading broker said.
