MW: U.S. stocks open up as investors anticipate Fed

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks started higher on Tuesday ahead of an interest-rate decision from the Federal Reserve and after Goldman Sachs Group reported its first ever loss as a public company. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ) gained 77.98 points to 8,642.51. The S&P 500 rose 12.20 points to 880.77. The Nasdaq Composite advanced 21.36 points to 1,529.7.
