MUMBAI: Wary traders, who didn’t want to carry positions ahead of long week-end, turned sellers sending equities sliding southwards for fourth
consecutive day. Higher than expected inflation figures triggered the fall. On-going tension between India and Pakistan also kept punters on the back foot.
Markets lacked volumes as most investors were in holiday mood ahead of the New Year.
Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex was at 9333.80, down 234.92 points or 2.47 per cent. The index touched an intra-day low of 9294.98 and an intra-day high of 9706.38.
National Stock Exchange’s Nifty was at 2863.80, down 1.85 per cent or 52.05 points. The broader index touched a low of 2844.80 and a high of 2960.95.
BSE Midcap Index was down 1.17 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index slipped 1.41 per cent.
