The dollar price escalated to VND17,500/US$1, and then VND17,600/US$1 on December 25, but the price levels held for just a short time. At 3 pm, December 25, the price was reportedly VND17,400-17,500 (purchase and sale), and then dropped to VND17,400-17,450/US$1 late yesterday afternoon.
Though the dollar price increased sharply and unexpectedly, the transactions in Hanoi did not see any big changes. The staffs of Quoc Trinh and Thang Long foreign currency exchange shops in Hanoi said that the number of buyers increased a little on December 25 in the morning, but the purchases and sales became normal in the afternoon.
The gold price has also increased to follow the dollar price increase. At the end of December 25, the gold price on trading floors climbed to VND17.92mil/tael. SJC gold was traded at VND17.35-17.45mil/tael, up by VND130,000/tael over the beginning of the day. 9999 gold also saw the increase of VND160,000/tael over the beginning of the day, purchasing at VND17.39mil/tael, and selling at VND17.5mil/tael.
The gold price quoted by Bao Tin Minh Chau Company in Hanoi late December 25 was VND17.36mil/tael and VND17.46mil/tael, purchase and sale.
Meanwhile, the gold price in the world’s market on December 25 saw a little decrease to $841.46/oz, down by $5 over the price earlier yesterday morning.
