The BSE Sensex provisionally rose 2.3 percent on Monday as investors expected a rate cut, while outsourcer Satyam rose in anticipation of moves to shore up investor sentiment.
Satyam Computer Services, India's No.4 outsourcer, provisionally closed 10.4 percent up at 149.55 rupees.
The 30-share BSE index provisionally rose 214.87 points to 9,543.79 points.
The 50-share NSE index provisionally ended 2.5 percent higher at 2,929.95.
