RTRS: SNAPSHOT-Indian stocks, bonds, rupee, money, gold
 
(Corrects Call Money snapshot to make clear rate was down
to 5.15/5.25 percent from previous close, not steady)

The 30-share BSE index up 1.06 percent at 9,749.5 points
and the 50-share NSE up 0.94 percent at 2,986.90 points, as
trading got underway in the new year with investors betting on
an economic stimulus package and rate cuts, after losing more
than half its value in 2008.

GOVERNMENT BONDS

The 2018 bond yield at 5.23 percent, compared with the
previous close of 5.25 percent, after posting their biggest
yearly fall in seven years in 2008, as investors expected
inflation to soften giving the central bank more room to cut
rates.
RUPEE
--------------
The rupee at 48.75/78 per dollar, compared with its
previous close of 48.70/72, pressured by dollar demand from
importers, but hopes the new year would bring in foreign
portfolio investment is seen supporting the currency that fell
19 percent in 2008.
INTEREST RATE SWAPS INROIS
----------------------------
Benchmark five-year swap rate at 4.54/4.64 percent from the
previous close of 4.59/4.69 percent.
CALL MONEY
--------------------
Call money rate down to 5.15/5.25 percent, compared with
its previous close of 6.40/6.50 percent.
GOLD <0#MAU:>
-------------
The February contract MAUG9 on the Multi Commodity
Exchange of India at 13,670 rupees, up 40 rupees from the
previous close.
