NK: Sensex opens firm at 9973.06 points , up by 69 points
 
The benchmark of Sensex today resumed positive at 9973.06 points on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) with a big gain of 69.60 from it last finish of 9903.46 on fresh speculative demand from mutual funds with in choppy trade in select scrips.


Key benchmark indices regained positive zone as index heavyweight Reliance Industries (RIL) rebounded from early low. After opening on a firm note tracking gains in Asian indices. Asian markets were trading firm today amid speculation government policies will help shelter the region from the global recession.

Key benchmark indices in Hong Kong, Singapore, and South Korea were up by between 0.05 per cent and 2.40 per cent. Stocks markets in Japan, China, Taiwan are closed on account of New Year holiday. The US markets also remained shut yesterday, on account of New Year holiday, a leading broker said.

Later, the BSE 30-share Sensex was up 45.06 points to 9,948.52.

and also the day's high at 9991.83 and a low at 9863.86 points in early trade. The S&P CNX Nifty index of National Stock Exchange (NSE) also resumed high at 3,034.60 against 3033.45 on the previous day's close.

Later it recorded the day's high and low at 3062.25 and 3021.80 points respectively. The current index is till up by 13 points to 3046.45 points.

The top heavy weight BSE stocks were gainers as Hindalco by 3.97 per cent to Rs 56.35, REL INFRA by 2.29 per cent to Rs 626.45, DLF Ltd by 2.14 per cent to Rs 298, Tata Motors by 2.11 per cent to Rs 174.55, HDFC by 2.01 per cent to Rs 1535, ICICI Bank by 1.94 per cent to Rs 473.05, SBI by 1.92 per cent to Rs 1341, Tata Steel by 1.77 per cent to Rs 232.80, REL COM by 1.69 per cent to Rs 249.55, HDFC Bank by 1.17 per cent to Rs 1024.30, L&T by 0.86 per cent to Rs 821.75 and Reliance by 0.79 per cent to Rs 1263.55.

But a few leading shares were losers as Satyam Computers by3.21 per cent to Rs 176.50, ACC by 1.79 per cent to Rs 487, Maruti Suzuki by 1.68 per cent to Rs 539.75 and Infosys Tech by 1 per cent to Rs 1136.
