MY: Sensex ends up 54.76 pts; Hindalco, DLF surge
 
The Sensex closed the choppy session on a positive note but off day`s high as investors booked profits at higher levels. Realty and banking stocks continued to trade strong on hopes of rate cuts and on expectations of a stimulus package to be announced later today.

BSE Midcap and Smallcap index rose 2.17% and 1.58% respectively.

Equities belled the day in the positive terrain tracking global cues. The 30-share index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 69.60 points, at 9,973.06 on Friday.

The Sensex ended the day with a gain of 54.76 points, or 0.55% at 9,958.22 after touching a high of 10,070.28 and a low of 9,863.86. The broad-based NSE Nifty climbed 13.30 points, or 0.44% at 3,046.75 after hitting a high of 3,079.85 and a low of 3,021.80.



Major gainers in the 30-share index were Hindalco Industries (3.23%), DLF (3.03%), Reliance Energy (2.96%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (2.67%), Tata Motors (2.57%), and Reliance Industries (2.41%).

On the other hand, Satyam Computer Services (2.63%), Bharti Airtel (2.06%), Wipro (2.04%), Tata Power Company (1.70%), Infosys Technologies (1.44%), and Hindustan Unilever (1.28%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Overall market breadth was sharply positive. Out of the total 2,600 stocks traded at BSE, 1,702 advanced, 820 declined while 78 remained unchanged.
