The 30-share BSE index ended 3.19 percent up at 10,275.6
points and the 50-share NSE index closed 2.45 percent up at
3,121.45 points, propelled by rate cuts and an economic package
to boost faltering economic growth.

GOVERNMENT BONDS

The 2018 bond yield at 5.17 percent, off the record low of
4.86 percent reached earlier on Monday on profit booking.
Yields fell from Friday's close of 5.07 percent after the deep
cuts in interest rates and measures to boost cash in the
banking system.
RUPEE
--------------
The rupee at 48.63/48.65 per dollar from previous close of
48.58/60, on demand for dollars from a large state-run bank.
The local currency rose to a high of 48.15 earlier on the day
as rate cuts by the central bank boosted the stock market and
on measures by the government to attract more foreign funds.
INTEREST RATE SWAPS INROIS

The benchmark five-year interest rate swap at 4.50/4.60
percent, off an early low of 4.30 percent as investors trimmed
positions at lower rates hit earlier on the day. It had closed
at 4.35/4.47 percent on Friday.
CALL MONEY
--------------------
Call money rate at 4.25/4.50 percent, from Friday's close
of 5.00/5.15 percent, on lower demand for funds after the
central bank lowered cash reserve ratio requirements for banks
late last week.
GOLD <0#MAU:>
-------------
The February contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of
India at 13,422 rupees, down 134 rupees from the previous
close.
