plunged after traders offloaded positions as sentiments turned bearish. Realty, IT and oil&gas stocks were the worst hit.

At 3 pm, Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex was at 9590.60, down 745.33 points or 7.21 per cent. The index fell to an intra-day low of 9510.15 and a high of 10469.72.

National Stock Exchange’s Nifty was at 2934.15, down 5.74 per cent or 178.65 points. The broader index breached its 2900 mark and fell to an intra-day low of 2888.20 and a high of 3147.20.

BSE Midcap Index was down 7.01 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index fell 6.05 per cent.

BSE Realty Index was down 17.74 per cent, BSE IT Index fell 9.88 per cent and BSE Oil&gas Index declined 8.65 per cent.

Satyam Computer Services (-78.89%), Jaiprakash Associates (-24.34%), Reliance Communications (-16.11%), DLF (-14.90%) and Reliance Infrastructure (-13.21%) were the top Sensex losers.

Hindustan Unilever (1.36%), Infosys Technologies (1.30%) and Grasim Industries (0.40%) were amongst the top gainers.

Market breadth was negative on the BSE 2124 losers and 364 gainers.
