Indian rupee fell against the greenback on early trade on account of heavy capital outflow by foreign funds and weak opening of the Indian bourses due to the Satyam fiasco.
The partially convertible rupee stood at Rs 48.54 a dollar, depreciating up to 0.52% than its previous close of 48.28/29.
Indian equities opened in the negative terrain after a fall of 1.88% on the previous working day. The 30-share index, BSE Sensex opened with a loss of 90.14 points, at 9,316.33 on Monday, January 12.
