Buoyed by fresh purchases gold prices today recovered by Rs 10 to close at Rs 13,500 per ten gram in the bullion market here on the eve of 'Makarsankranti' while silver lacked necessary follow up staging a decline.
Marketmen said fresh buying by local parties for 'Makarsankranti', an auspicious day in Hindu mythology for making fresh purchases in jewellery, mainly pushed up the gold prices.
They said the buying was further boosted on jewellers buying to meet the current demand from retailers.
Standard gold and ornaments rose by Rs 10 each at Rs 13,500 and Rs 13,350 per ten gram respectively while sovereign rose by Rs 25 to Rs 10,750 per piece of eight gram.
On the other hand, silver ready declined by Rs 20 to Rs 18,430 per kg and weekly-based delivery by Rs 60 to Rs 18,360 per kg.
However, silver coins remained flat at Rs 27,000 for buying and Rs 27,100 for selling of 100 pieces.
