NEW YORK -- The dollar and yen benefited on Monday from expectations for gloomy fourth-quarter earnings reports and U.S. economic data later this week, as traders turned away from riskier currencies.
Overnight, the dollar fell to its lowest level yet this year against the yen, at ¥89.60.
Meanwhile, criticism of the European Central Bank hurt the euro ahead of the central bank's policy-setting meeting this Thursday.
Early Monday in New York, the euro was at $1.3402 from $1.3438 late Friday, and the dollar was at ¥90.02 from ¥90.30, according to EBS. The euro was at ¥120.66 from ¥121.36, and U.K.
