MW: European shares fall for fifth straight session
European shares declined for the fifth straight session on Tuesday, with oil producers and mineral extractors falling again as oil futures continued to slide. Elsewhere, shares of automaker Peugeot fell 2.4% after it said that 2008 total sales fell 4.9%, while shares of supermarket group Tesco advanced 2.2% after its sales climbed 11.6% in the 7 weeks to Jan. 10. The French CAC-40 index declined 0.7% to 3,224.30, the German DAX 30 index lost 0.8% to 4,681.28 and the U.K. FTSE 100 index fell 0.9% to 4,385.78.
