AP: Indian equities firm after opening in the green
 
Indian equities were ruling firm after opening in the green Friday following positive cues from global markets, though IT bellwether Tata Consultancy Services took a hit following lower-than-expected third quarter results.After opening at 9,125.65 points, against the previous day’s close at 9,046.74 points, the sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) rose to 9,242.51 points soon after.

About an hour-and-a-half into trading, the key index was ruling at 9,219.65 points with a gain of 172.91 points, or 1.91 percent, over the previous close. The mid-cap index was up 1.03 percent, while that for small-cap stocks was up 0.96 percent.

Reliance Communications was the main gainer among the Sensex scrips, up 5.11 percent, while DLF led the losers, down 3.81 percent. Tata Consultancy was down 0.78 percent, while fraud-hit Satyam was up 25.86 percent.

At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the S&P CNX Nifty index was also up 1.82 percent at 2,786.45 points, against the previous close at 2,736.70 points.
