The 30-share BSE index down 0.45 percent at 8773.85 points
and the 50-share NSE index down 0.49 percent at 2,700.45
points, on worries about earnings and weak overseas markets.

GOVERNMENT BONDS -------------------------------
The 2018 bond yield was at 5.84 percent, from previous
close of 5.81 percent, after the prime minister's economic
adviser said he would not be surprised if the central bank
holds rates steady at its policy review on Jan. 27. The yield
was at 5.79 percent before the comments.
RUPEE --------------
The rupee at 49.15/16 per dollar, slightly weaker than its
previous close of 49.13/16, tracking the dollar's strength
against majors overseas and some demand from importers, with
wobbly shares adding to the gloom.
INTEREST RATE SWAPS INROIS

The benchmark five-year interest rate swap at 4.68/75
percent compared with previous close of 4.71/77.
CALL MONEY --------------------
Call money rate at 4.15/20, barely moved from previous
close of 4.10/20 percent on surplus cash in the banking system.

The February contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of
India at 13,543 rupees, up 2 rupees from the previous close.
