Equities after closing flat yesterday, opened on a bearish note today tracking weak global cues. The 30-share index, BSE Sensex opened with a loss of 125.16 points, at 9,111.12. Realty, power and consumer goods were the top losers.
BSE Midcap and Smallcap index declined 0.86% and 0.18%, respectively.
Asian stocks opened negative, led by banks and technology companies, as a record crash in Japanese production and lower profit forecasts fueled anxiety among investors that the global recession is expanding.
Back home, Sensex ended marginally lower on the day of F&O expiry for January series. Weak European opening coupled with higher domestic inflation dampened the sentiments. In the previous day session, the Sensex closed with a loss of 21.19 points, or 0.23%, while the NSE Nifty declined by 25.55 points, or 0.90%.
