ZN: Markets open on a dull note

The Bombay Stocks Exchange Benchmark sensex on Thursday opened marginally higher by over 45 points on funds buying, led by the metal sector.

The 30-share index, which had gained 52.55 points in yesterday's trading, added another 45.24 points to 9,247.09 in the first five minutes of trading.

Similarly, the broader National Stock Exchange Nifty rose by 13.75 points to 2816.80.

Traders remained cautious and purchased some of the fundamentally strong stocks amid deepening concerns of recession.

The said activity was more confined to metal shares on firming trend in London Metal Exchange.

Firming trend on Asian bourses also supported the market, they added.

Major gainers which supported the Sensex were Hindustan zinc by 2.38 percent to Rs 337, Sesa Goa by 6.38 percent to Rs 91.70 and Tata Steel by 3.01 per cent to Rs 184.55.
