Indian rupee opened strong on Friday, February 06 following positive trends in Indian and Asian equities which increased optimism that overseas funds will return to buy emerging-market assets.
The partially convertible rupee stood at 48.68/69 a dollar, a rise of 0.18% than its previous close of Rs 48.77/78.
Asian stocks gained as the weaker yen lifted earnings prospects for Japanese electronics makers coupled with investor speculation that US will announce its plan to ease the financial crisis. Meanwhile Indian equities too opened higher tracking strong global cues. The 30-share index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 70.61 points, at 9,161.49 on Friday.
