MYS: Sensex trades firm; Realty leads
 
The Sensex gained ground on account of sustained buying interest seen across board. Realty outperformed all other sectors followed by oil & gas and banking.

BSE Midcap and Smallcap index rose 1.36% and 1.04% respectively.

Among the sectoral indices, BSE Realty was leading the chart. The counter surged 6%, Oil & Gas rose 1.93% and Bankex moved up 1.78%.

Indian stock market started the day on a positive zone after a fall of 1.21% on the previous working day. The 30-share index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 70.61 points, at 9,161.49 on Friday.

In the previous day session, the Sensex ended with a loss of 110.97 points, or 1.21%, while the NSE Nifty declined by 23.00 points, or 0.82%.

Currently, the 30-share index Sensex is trading up 159.34 points, or 1.75%, at 9,250.22, after touching a high of 9,251.46 and a low of 9,158.59. Meanwhile the broad based Nifty is trading higher by 48.60 points, or 1.75%, at 2,828.65, after hitting a high of 2,833.30 and a low of 2,778.65. (10.54 a.m.)



Overall market breadth is extremely positive. Out of the total 1,686 stocks traded at BSE, 1,088 advanced, 524 declined while 74 remained unchanged.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Jaiprakash Associates (4.46%), DLF (4.05%), Tata Motors (3.84%), Reliance Energy (3.70%), Ranbaxy Laboratories (3.54%), and Tata Consultancy Services (3.02%).

Sterlite Industries (India), which declined 1.56% were the only loser in the Sensex.
