RTRS: Dollar falls to session low vs yen as stocks plunge
The dollar sank to session lows against the yen on Tuesday as Wall Street stocks plunged, with investors worried that the U.S. government's rescue plan would not be sufficient to revive the ailing banking sector.
The dollar fell to intraday lows against the yen at 90.29 , according to Reuters data, and last traded at 90.40, down 1.1 percent on the day.
Markets had pinned their hopes on the rescue package, aimed at helping banks off-load "toxic assets" and boost capital. But the plan failed to reinvigorate a sagging U.S. equities market, leading to buying in the Japanese currency.
