SIFY: Sensex, Nifty set to end on a flat note
 
Information technology stocks have rallied sharply in late afternoon trade thanks to a weak rupee. Select auto, power and PSU stocks have also posted notable gains. However, with several other blue chip stocks struggling to make headway, the market appears headed for a flat close today.

Stockometer

The Sensex, which had slipped to 8977.66 earlier in the day, has recovered to 9037.34, netting a gain of 22.16 points or 0.25%. The Nifty is up 9.15 points or 0.33% at 2785.30.

Wipro has surged 5.5% to Rs 220.65 on sustained buying at the counter. Idea Cellular has moved up by 3.8% to Rs 49.55. Nalco is up by over 3% at Rs 202.50.

Top gainers

Infosys Technologies has gained 2.7%. Suzlon Energy, Punjab National Bank, Maruti Suzuki, HDFC, Grasim Industries, Mahindra & Mahindra, Siemens and Tata Consultancy Services are up by 2% - 2.75%. Zee Entertainment, NTPC, Ranbaxy Laboratories, Reliance Infrastructure, ONGC, Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel, Tata Motors and HDFC Bank have gained more than a per cent.

Worst losers

GAIL India, Tata Steel, Reliance Capital, Sterlite Industries and ITC have posted modest gains.

Hindalco has lost nearly 4% at Rs 39.95. ACC, ABB, Unitech, ICICI Bank, DLF and Reliance Petroleum have gone down by 2% - 3%. SAIL, Larsen & Toubro, Hindustan Unilever, BHEL, State Bank of India, Cairn India and Reliance Industries also trade weak.
