MW: Japan's Nikkei off more than 2%, lowest level since October
Japan's Nikkei average was down more than 2% in afternoon trade, falling to its lowest intra-day level since the October lows, with chipmakers and banks among big decliners. The Japanese index was down 2.3%, or 170 points, to 7,387.63. The level was the lowest on an intraday basis since the 6,994.90 low on Oct. 28. Apart from that day, Friday's intraday level was the lowest in a data stream dating back to 1985, according to Factset.
